The Extension and Continuing Education Center of the Universidad de La Salle has responded to the global trend of Spanish as the second language in international communication.
The Latin American Center, with more than 45 years’ experience of TeachingSpanish to Foreigners, is an institution with one of the longest track records in this field in Colombia and Latin America.
CEPEX welcomes foreigners residing in Colombia who wish to learn and/or improve their Spanish and/or knowledge of Latin American culture.
The program is designed for the acquisition of Spanish through a communicative methodology which seeks to immerse the participant in the language and culture to develop the communicative skills necessary to interact with linguistic, strategic and discursive appropriateness in the pan-Hispanic environment.
The courses of Spanish as a Second Language are oriented to the development of communicative and academic skills for successful incorporation of the student’s activities in Colombia, which vary from tourism to longer periods of cultural, academic and work purposes and even eventual residence in a Spanish speaking country. Thus, the nature and the modalities of these courses vary.
The Spanish for International Students Program at Universidad del Norte is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes and follows the CEFR guidelines. The methodology is based on the communicative approach with emphasis on oral skills. The Program combines regular semester courses or summer immersion courses with a great variety of extracurricular activities including visits to museums, companies, schools, and historic sites in Barranquilla, Cartagena and Santa Marta.
The Spanish for Foreigners Program uses a broad, intercultural methodology which includes the principles of communicative focus for the integral development of the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking so that the student will be able to interact in Spanish-speaking contexts.
The Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language Program seeks to create significant learning environments and opportunities for the development of communicative skills in Spanish.
The Language Center of the Universidad Sergio Arboleda offers Spanish courses for groups of mostly 11 students. The clases are two hours per day, from Monday through Friday, at the following time intervals: 8-10 am, 10-12 m, 2-4 pm and 4-6 pm. The courses include field trips to cultural sites of interest and exchange with our Santa Marta campus.
The Spanish for Foreigners Program offered by EIA and CES is a setting so that visitors or residents of other countries can become familiar with and learn Spanish in an immersion context. Participants in the Program will develop diverse communicative competencies based on the Common European Framework of Reference for languages which can be practiced naturally with native speakers in diverse situations.
This program consists of six modules of 80 hours each in which the student progressively develops in the different units making up the courses to reach the proposed communication objectives. Each module is accompanied by learning activities in and out of the class which are guided by the coordinator.
The Functional Spanish for Foreigners Program aims at giving non-Spanish speakers proficiency in language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking within a cultural and linguistic Colombian framework. The program emphasizes day to day situations through exercises and activities which use the language as a functional method of communication. Our program includes cultural trips and activities that have academic and pedagogical objectives. Our teaching has a communicative focus, thus the course offers different activities which will help develop our students’ communication skills, and give them the opportunity to interact with Colombian people in real situations.
The Language Center of the Pedagogical University offers Spanish courses for foreigners, which aims to improve the communication skills of students and is part of a process approach to thinking and traditions of Colombian and Latin American culture.
The Fray Bernardo de Lugo OP language Institute of the Universidad Santo Tomás seeks, through its Spanish courses for foreigners, to contribute to the development of functional and cultural language skills which will allow students to achieve different communicative levels as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for the teaching and assessment of languages. Students are expected to achieve a general linguistic mastery which would properly allow them to communicate orally and in writing in employment, academic and leisure settings, and to be able to understand the main points of a text in standard language. We also strive for students to be able to perform in most situations that may arise during a trip to places where Spanish is spoken. The methodology for these courses is primarily based on a communicative approach, which requires the interactive development of the four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), while incorporating the cultural component as a social facilitator which will allow students to act in everyday situations.
The program is aimed at those interested in learning Spanish as a second language.
The main objective of the ESPEX Program is that the student reaches a C1 competence level, acquiring the skills necessary to communicate effectively with a broad linguistic repertoire in any Spanish speaking country in daily contexts. This is the reason for our motto: “Spanish for international communication”.
The purpose of foreign languages courses is to enable students to have a command of the target language in communicative contexts. Emphasis is made on oral communication; however, other language-related skills like comprehension, written expression and interaction will also be developed.
Through studying the current realities of Colombia and its culture, the students on our Spanish as a Foreign Language courses are encouraged to develop linguistic and sociolinguistic competencies in standard and Colombian Spanish.
The program aims to develop the communicative and cultural competences in Spanish based on the individual educational needs. The courses are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which will allow the development of these skills according to its A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 levels.
Our program Spanish for Foreigners is aimed at people who visit Colombia to learn Spanish, and the purpose consists in providing, from an interdisciplinary perspective, certain categories of pragmatic linguistics and the learning, practicing and development of Spanish as a second language.
The Language Center at the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar in Cartagena, Colombia, has created the Spanish and Cultural Immersion Course to promote both the learning of Spanish and a deeper understanding of Cartagena’s rich culture and social fabric. We believe the best approach to acquiring a second language is immersing oneself into the culture, applying classroom knowledge to real life situations, and learning through interaction. Our program enables students to reinforce the skills learned in the classroom through dynamic cultural activities both on the university campus and in Cartagena's beautiful historical city (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Vive Español” is a Spanish program for foreigners that unites language learning, the richness of Colombian culture, and many extracurricular activities to provide you with an incredible and authentic experience throughout your stay in our country.,
